HMS Adds Second Vessel to Mobile Bay Ferry Operation
HMS Alabama, Dauphin Island is pleased to announce the arrival of our newest addition to our car ferry service, The Marissa Mae Nicole. The Marissa Mae Nicole is 150' by 40' United States Coast Guard Certified car ferry and will operate in addition to the current ferry during the busy season and special events. Because her flexible design and self loading capabilities this vessel not only can service the Mobile Bay routes but can be called to other locations if needed. The addition of this second vessel reduces waiting time for passengers, increases the number of round trips daily and gives the Mobile Bay Ferry service greater redundancy.
She will operate across the mouth of the Mobile Bay and run concurrent with the F/V Fort Morgan, thereby cutting the wait time to 45 minutes from the previous 90 minutes between runs.
The Marissa Mae Nicole was put back in service after extensive rebuilding. Hornblower Marine Services first put the ferry in service as a part of a relief effort in Bay St Louis, Mississippi. She ran between Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian, Mississippi while the heavily Katrina damaged I-90 bridge was being repaired.
Everyone here at HMS-ALABAMA, Dauphin Island, and the surrounding communities are looking forward to the expansion of our fleet and having another vessel in operation.
