John Sainsbury
General Manager for Pierce County Ferry
As a US Coast Guard Licensed Master, he brings over sixteen years of maritime experience to the HMS team. John has sailed in various sectors of the industry, including deep sea, towing, passenger and general cargo, thereby gaining valuable experience before moving ashore as a manager. His passenger vessel experience includes both high speed and conventional ferries, casino and overnight cruise operations.
John is a marine transportation graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY who also completed minor studies in marine engineering. John has completed various additional studies in project management and business management. He currently holds a US Coast Guard Master’s license for vessels to 1,600 gross tons, any oceans and is a certified ISM Code internal auditor. Over the years John has progressed through marine operational management positions in the passenger vessel industry. He served as Port Captain and Marine Operations Manager for Glacier Bay Cruiseline and most recently as Vice President of Operations for Pacific Navigation Company.
John brings an exceptional level of operational experience, business management knowledge and “results management” to the HMS team.
